Have you seen Office Space yet? I think everyone has had a job experience like that. Mine was my first job right after college.... you know what I'm talking about....the crazy woman who sits next to you and steals your office supplies... who constantly compares your computer to her computer and determines that you have a better key board and complains to the boss that she has carpal tunnel syndrome and gets a new key board, and rubs it in your face despite the fact you could care less (can you tell I have some residual bitterness?).
Office life is like high school all over again. The same cliques, the same gossip, the same frustrations... only in the office the stakes are higher because someone is actually paying you to be there...
My favorite part of Office Space was the concept of "Flare"... those ridiculous pins Jennifer Aniston's boss made her wear at her TGI-Friday's like job. It reminded me of all the "cute" little things offices do to make you feel "special" despite the fact you're just a pencil pusher. Sitting at my desk as an administrative assist, my boss brought in a "Super Secretary" mug with coffee in it and the rest of the people in the office ooohhed and ahhhhhed at it all day. It was about then I decided to join the Naughty Secretary Club.... and shop their wide selection of gorgeous accessories, jewelry and purses. Though those days are behind me, I'm still addicted to the naughty Secretary Club (I posted about them when I first started this site)... and if you're even the slightest bit naughty you should definitely check them out.
While you at it, and speaking of Office Space, you may also want to try out pieces of Flare, a site that features custom made belt buckles in some of the coolest designs I've seen. These belt buckles are really amazing and would make a great gift! The even have a contest going on now where you can create and win your own custom buckle... how cool is that? Each one is about $20...
Also of note: FredFlare is having a sale... and they just got in some great back to school stuff...
More on Flare: I have to rant for a minute. First, I will preface it with the fact that I think Lance Armstrong is amazing and a true inspiration. I even understand the appeal of wearing one of his LIVESTRONG arm bands. Fine. But the other day I say next to a girl on the Orange Line who was wearing SIX different colored armbands. I mean... isn't that taking it a bit too far? The worst part was she was a professional, dressed in a business suit. In a world of grey business suits and black twin sets, are multi-colored arm bands the only way we can assert our individuality? When she looks down at her multi-colored arm as she types away her day does it give her some kind of solace? Pride? Passion? I just don't get it...
