The Crafty Scientist is cool because not only does she design really cool, original handbags, but she does so while writing scientific articles such as Dual-action hypoglycemic and hypocholesterolemic agents that inhibit glycogen phosphorylase and lanosterol demethylase (your guess is as good as mine).
This mix of passions is close to my heart as I constantly try to balance the left brain logic of law with my artistically overbearing right-brain... in fact many of the amazing designers featured here moonlight as school teachers, analysts and other such practical things.
Very few get to truly live out their passion as self-supporting independent artists... Which is why its important to support and buy from them. The artistic dream is certainly not
the most practical one... those who strive for big bucks and a leather seat at an investment banking firm will definitely get the BMW first... but I always admire people who fall hard for the arts,because they live their lives with admirable passion (not that the ibankers of the world don't live with passion... I definitely have friends with the money-at-all-costs passion... I just find it really annoying).
On another (somewhat irrelevant note), I got Scrubs on DVD this weekend... I mean, I can't recall a funnier, prime-time, major network TV show... anyway have you ever noticed all the cool t-shirts "JD" wears? I have!
