Get a Boost

Have you ever gotten to the point where you've done so much work that the only thought you can muster in your head is a dull, monotonous hum? If not, consider yourself lucky. I have most certainly reached that point this week (finals do that to me). I think I'm incapable of mustering an original thought at this point. This afternoon I sat with my cat and watched TNT back-to-back-to-back Law and Orders and almost cried at the end of one of them. Yeah. Its that bad.

What I needed was a good read. Not a super- controversial read.... And as much as I love race and politics, I could use a break from that too... But, being part fabulous and somewhat elitist (hence the fact that all of the sites, artists and designers I post are the best), what I read has to have substance... and great writing... great writing a must. Thank goodness my favorite new author, Jennifer Solow is releasing her book "The Booster" next month (click the picture above for the first three chapters... just enough to get you hooked!). After just a few chapters of her debut novel my dull hum was replaced with a smile and I was well on my way back to healthy/ sane- post finals Brooke.

Reasons why you should grab this book when its released March 21st:

  • Its not your average "socialite gets a job at a PR firm, falls in love, quits her job and gets married" type of book. Her style is refreshing and the story has that perfect mix of escape and originality.
  • Jennifer is one of the most down to earth people you'll ever meet. Seriously, she's extremely passionate about her work and is a genuinely cool person (for more on her day to day check out her blog and drop her a line). I've spoken to her personality and can say with 100% enthusiasm that she's definitely worth supporting.
  • A book about a fashionista-shopaholic-shoplifter? What could be more fun? We all have a friend like this (whether we know it or not)...
  • Amazon has a great deal going right now, so you can indulge without breaking the bank.
  • I'll stay in touch with Jennifer as her book is released and keep you up-to-date on related events that may be in your area!
Speaking of great reads, I have to give a little shout-out to gridskipper.com and their thoughtful post. Despite the fact that editor Chris Mohney just started wearing dark-wash jeans (how cute is that?!) I'm glad his fashion sense (or a good tip?) lead him this way.
