I was sitting on the subway yesterday reading Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point (after finishing Blink a few weeks ago) when I noticed the woman sitting across from me. She too was reading, but instead of having a subway-ified* book like mine (*a tad dirty from the daily commute) her book was covered in a fresh cloth book cover. Genius! I thought- about both Gladwell's theories and the book cover idea.
Every designer, trend analyst or trend setter should read The Tipping Point... as important as it is to understand fashion on its face, its equally important to understand what goes behind it... this book (which I'm sure many of you have already read) explains in thoughtful prose the process behind trend and that which makes ideas "tip" towards greatness.... Blink, Gladwell's more recent book takes the idea of the tipping point a step further as he explores "the power of thinking without thinking"...
While you're becoming enlightened, you may want to invest in or create a stylish fabric book cover like the one I saw yesterday. It not only protects your book, it looks great and can hide some of the more embarrassing titles from onlookers (a great way to hide the fact you're reading "Lusty Embrace" at your desk during your lunch break)...Uplifting Arts.com discusses book covers in their "create" section this
month, and Sewing.com has simple do-it-yourself instructions on how to create your own.
