Ok, so a quick note in the midst of vacation...
I was relaxing the other day, reading those wonderfully thick September magazines... you know, the ones that are like 85% ads and 15% content, yet take a good hour and half to read on the beach? Anyway, as I flipped through "it bags" ranging from $3,000 to $33,000, I became increasingly annoyed. I love art and fashion as much as the next person, but $33,000?? I don't care how filthy rich you are, that's just insane. That's a year of college... I mean the median family income in the United States is between $30,000 and $48,000... which means a family could basically live on what some women spend on a pocket book they'll at most carry a few dozen times a year (you can't wear the bag every day darling, that's so gauche).
Of course I understand the lure... the idea of luxury... the industry-perverted concept of "I'm worth it".... but women need to take a serious step back and look realize none of these people actually think you're worth it. In fact the only worth these giant companies see in you is what you're foolishly willing to spend on their suggestion of luxury. So as you shop the magazines, racks, and internet for your back-to-school, college, or winter wardrobe, know that you are worth it, and that your taste is what matters, not what the industry tells you you should like (in other words, it's ok to hate those little half sweaters every store is pushing).
