There's some debate among experts as to whether the customization trend has passed... but based on the number of people wearing last year's UGG boots, (sorry, I know I said I'd stop), its clear that "the people" dictate what trends will last, not the so-called experts. Thus I present perfect gifts for your self-obsessed friends: Customization.
- First step: the shoes. Why not get your pal a gift certificate to Nikeid, where they can chose from a wide variety of styles, colors, and designs to get that perfect "the shoe everybody has, but no one has" look (note the sarcasm).
- Second: Move up to jeans. There seems to be a mini-war brewing in the online custom jeans category (or maybe I just made it up because I like to start trouble). Me vs. U. Each site offers super-custom jeans (from color, to shape, to cut, to zipper color), for around $100. Me's site is a bit easier to navigate (and the jeans are a tad less $), but U sends you a free tailors tape (which would be kinda cute to give along with a gift card)... Whose it gonna be? Me or U?
- Anyway, lastly (and my favorite customization suggestion) is a tee shirt or sweatshirt from Neighborhoodies. With a wide selection of shapes, colors, sizes, and customization options, you can get your friend exactly what you want... (e.g. got an ex who's a cheater? why not get him a "cheater" tee complete with a cool skull and bones graphic... if he's anything like my college ex, he'll likely wear it with pride). They also offer gift certificates!
I think I'm gonna take a break from this gift-giving/consumption thing for the rest of the week... after all, there's certainly more us than shopping.
