When I lived in New York, I always wondered how people could afford such amazing clothes and.. well... live day-to-day. Did they all have amazing jobs? Rich significant others? Surely I was missing something. It dawned on me the day I was walking down Broadway and saw a frenzy of high-heeled fashion queens literally sprinting into a darkened alley, up a set of ominous stairs. Not knowing why, but feeling compelled, I followed them. Up the stairs and to the left: a dark, open space with unfinished wooden floors. Large card tables were unfolded and heaps of clothes and purses were scattered everywhere. Then I heard it. A yell from the back: "Prada for $30!! I love it!!" An extremely blond woman was clutching a Prada bag that retailed for over $250. I had entered the world of the Sample Sale.
